Class Descriptions

3D Animation:
Come get animated! Or rather, come and get animating, as we teach you the basics steps to create your own 3D assets and animations from start to finish that you can show off to your friends and family!

Biomedical Explorations:
Learn how body systems work and operate together by exploring the inner workings of the skeletal, muscular, nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, and digestive systems. As anatomy explorers we’ll take a look inside each with microscopes, dissections, and interactive games that literally allow us to be a fly on the wall watching the processes take place.

BIS KIDS: Intro to Leadership and Entrepreneurship:
Every great leader and entrepreneur starts with a dream! By learning leadership and entrepreneurship early, children develop confidence, resilience, and the ability to turn their ideas into reality. Through fun activities, real-world challenges, and hands-on experiences, we will empower young minds to think big, take initiative, and make a difference.

Carpentry:
Nailed It! Do you want hands-on experience designing and building different projects? Come learn the basics of carpentry and woodworking and create your own take-home designs!

Cosmetology:
Welcome to Cosmetology, an exciting program designed for individuals looking to explore the vibrant world of beauty and self-expression! Whether you're dreaming of becoming a professional makeup artist, hairstylist, or nail technician, this program offers an inspiring introduction to key cosmetology skills. You'll get hands-on experience and learn techniques that allow you to transform creativity into art! Explore the art of color application by learning to apply hair color. Unleash your creativity with face painting and mask art, designing stunning looks for costumes, events, or fun personal expression. Finally, dive into the world of nail art, where you'll learn to create intricate designs using polish, gems, and accessories for unique, eye-catching styles.

Culinary – One Pot Wonders
(Week 1 Only):
Explore the basics of cooking and food science when heat is applied.  Each day we will make an easy one pot meal, simple casserole, or simple snack designed to boost kitchen confidence and give fun recipes for the family to enjoy.  We will feature:  Beef, chicken, and smoked sausage.

Culinary - Hot Out the Oven
(Week 2 Only):
Explore the basics of baking and kitchen science.  We will make pie, rolls, bread, bagels, and cookies.

EdVenture Camp: Discover the Joy of Teaching!:
Fun, playful, and adventurous—perfect for sparking curiosity in young aspiring teachers.

Electrical (Week 2 Only):
Come explore the world of electrical! Learn about electrical power safety and first aid, wiring methods, controls, circuits, switches, and outlets. This class will certainly be electrifying!

Moviemaking:
Become immersed in the wonderful world of movie making, where students will learn how to write, film, and edit their very own short film using industry standard cameras and editing software.

Photography:
Learn how to operate an industry level camera in complete manual mode. When students leave this class, they will know exactly how a camera works, what every button does, and will never have to use preset modes again.

Vex Robotics:
Students will use the VEX5 robotics platform to build and block program a unit designed to complete a given challenge. Given a challenge and basic information, students will be taught problem solving methods for design. Beginning by building a chassis, students will understand why a stable structure is necessary to provide physical support.  Next, we will build an understanding of speed and torque before mounting motors, wheels, and gears to complete the drive system on our chassis.  We will conclude the week with a fully functioning robot that we have programmed to overcome obstacles and defeat challenges at our command. Finally, we will use a block program to create a command center that can control our robots and test our ability to overcome given challenges and obstacles. Students will have several opportunities for informal science learning, as well as leadership and problem-solving training through work teams and recreational activities.
