Description
Great Plains Technology Center's comprehensive Firefighter/EMT training program provides a detailed and in-depth overview of firefighting on a global scale. It covers various aspects of firefighting, including fire service careers, roles and responsibilities of fire service personnel, historical traditions, fire prevention techniques, firefighter safety protocols, public education on fire and life safety, fire investigation procedures, scientific terminology related to fires, building construction and how it affects firefighting efforts, fire detection methods, fire suppression techniques, the role of public and private support organizations in firefighting efforts, and the organization and management of fire departments.
One critical area of focus is fire prevention. Participants learn the different strategies and techniques used to prevent fires from occurring, including education and outreach programs, as well as engineering and building design strategies. Students also learn the importance of maintaining fire safety standards and the consequences of failing to do so.
Another important aspect is firefighter safety. Participants learn of hazards firefighters face when responding to fires and other emergencies, protocols and techniques used to mitigate risks. They learn the importance of effective equipment and gear use ensuring their safety and the safety of others.
The program also covers emergency medical knowledge and skills necessary to care for the sick and injured in a pre-hospital setting. Topics include recognizing and treating respiratory and circulatory emergencies, trauma, medical emergencies, environmental injuries, emergency childbirth, and psychological emergencies.
