Employer Connections

The greatest strength of any successful organization lies in its people. In today’s competitive economy and evolving workplace, the skills most valued by employers are the very skills developed at Great Plains Technology Center.

We are dedicated to helping your company connect with highly skilled employees and to building strong partnerships that support your organization’s long-term success. By engaging with our campus, you will have the opportunity to meet our students and graduates through a range of impactful, high-visibility experiences

One of the most effective ways of providing a link between the community, employers and the technology center is through career program advisory committees. GPTC has 29+ career programs you can participate in as an employer.

Advisory committees are essential to the successful initiation of technical and/or occupational programs, and they play an important role in guiding, strengthening, and improving existing programs.

Purpose of an Advisory Committee

  • Link CareerTech programs with business, industry, and community needs.
  • Ensure training leads to employability and career advancement.
  • Strengthen program quality and accountability for accreditation.
  • Serve as a communication bridge between education and workforce.

Functions of an Advisory Committee

  • Program Guidance: Advise on curriculum, identify skill gaps, and recommend equipment/technology.
  • Evaluation & Improvement: Review outcomes, identify areas for growth, and provide input during reviews and monitoring.
  • Partnership & Advocacy: Promote programs, support work-based learning, and mentor students through CTSOs and competitions.

Responsibilities of an Advisory Committee

  • Curriculum & Instruction: Recommend new courses/credentials and ensure alignment with workforce needs.
  • Facilities & Equipment: Advise on equipment, technology, and safety standards.
  • Student Development & Employability: Encourage soft skills training, assist with mock interviews, résumés, and networking.
  • Community & Industry Engagement: Advocate to employers/policymakers, assist with student recruitment and job placement.
  • Accountability & Oversight: Attend meetings, review reports, and ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.

Participate on an Employer Panel

  • Each fall and spring semester, Career and College Connection hosts Employer Panels inviting employers to share insight on employer expectations, the company and career opportunities. It is a great opportunity to build your brand on campus.

Schedule a Program Area or Campus Tour

  • Enjoy a private guided tour of a program area of interest or the entire campus.  Tours will give you an opportunity to see the classroom, visit with the instructor, ask questions, and see the students at work.
  • Call 580-250-5684 to schedule your tour or complete the Request a Tour form.

Take Part in a Mock Interview Day

  • Participate in one of GPTC's Mock Interview Days to meet prospective employee candidates, promote your company, connect with faculty and build relationships throughout Lawton and SW Oklahoma.

Recruit at Career and College Fair

  • Connect with students and alumni at our annual career and college fair. This event is not only a great way to recruit qualified candidates but also a great way to promote your company's brand on-campus.

The benefits of connecting with Great Plains Technology Center to provide work-based learning opportunities are countless, and when you commit as a partner employer for work-based learning, our students have the chance to experience how your company operates, your standards of work, ethics, and social interaction while on the job.

Benefits of Work Based Learning for Employers:

  • Build an employee pipeline
  • Test-drive the talent
  • Increase employee-retention rate
  • Give back to the community
