Shielded Metal Arc Welding - Lawton Campuses

Students are introduced to one of the most widely used welding processes in industry, commonly known as “stick welding.” This course covers welding safety, equipment setup, electrode selection, and proper machine operation, along with techniques for striking an arc, maintaining a weld puddle, and producing sound welds in various positions. Students will gain hands-on experience in preparing and joining metal using industry-standard procedures while learning to identify and correct common weld defects. Emphasis is placed on shop safety, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and developing foundational welding skills applicable to structural, fabrication, and repair work.
