Have you “herd” about the latest additions to the Great Plains Technology Center’s landscaping?
Four “bronze” bison that’s buffalo to Oklahomans have roamed onto the Lawton campus grounds, where they now greet traffic on Lee Boulevard.
Glen Boyer, director of marketing and communications at GPTC, said the school finished installing the statues, which are similar to other bronze (actually cast aluminum( buffalo all across the city Lawton, July 10th.
GPTC has one large buffalo, which stands 68 inches tall, and three small buffalo that stand 32 inches high, he said.
Funds for the buffalo were raised the past 10 months through fundraisers by students and staff and private donations. One of the most effective fundraisers was implementing an aluminum can recycling program that will continue.
The buffalo were purchased from Crater Creek Country Creations, located just west of Lawton. The large buffalo cost $1,500 and the smaller statues were $400 each.
“There is really no greater icon of the Great Plains than the buffalo,” Boyer said. “Our students and staff think it’s a perfect match”.
